Wow! In Fort McMurray

Yesterday morning Melanie woke me up and said "let's go to visit your dad today!"

My dad lives several thousand kilometers from us. So I looked into flights and found that I had enough aeroplan points for us all to go and that there was a red-eye flight from Toronto to Calgary and then to Fort McMurray. And we did it! So. I'm on vacation :-)

Heart Health

Today I went for a heart stress test and to get hooked up for a 24 hour heart monitor. This comes out of some minor chest pain I had back in May or June or thereabouts. My doctor had me do some bloodwork and an ECG. The results were healthy. However, he also said that I could optionally have these two further tests if I wanted...

Then in the early fall, Melanie and I tried to get life insurance. After many weeks, the insurance company came back and said that I was rejected... although the agent said that I could do these further tests which had shown up on my health report from my doctor to the insurance company. So... in order to get the insurance, I need to do these tests. Irritating, but oh well.

The Wedding Singer

Last night Melanie and I watched "The Wedding Singer" with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. We enjoyed it a lot - some good laughs and a nice touching happy ending. Recommended as nice light fare. Recently I've come to appreciate Mr. Sandler's work a lot more. He and Ms. Barrymore work well together - "Fifty First Dates" was actually quite a tear-jerker.

I have to admit, though, that my standards for enjoying movies are quite low.

Fabulous First Feast

Yesterday we had our first Feast in hour home. There were about 16 adults and 14 kids. We had some great food, singing, inspiring prayers and readings, and lots of good visiting. Several people came from other communities including from distant lands such as California and Russia. Melanie's sister Kristine helped us prepare for and manage the Feast - thanks! Unfortunately, Christian and Jeanne were visiting family in Winnipeg so they could not be here for it. As well, my mom who was visiting last week had to leave the night before the Feast due to poor weather.

By the way, happy old-world-order new year :-)
